One Year of Altar

When we started Altar a little over a year ago, we wanted our focus to be on excavation and rockwork after ten years in landscape construction. Big rocks and natural elements have always been some of our favourite features to play with in projects, and so after a decade of end to end landscaping, it felt like time for a change.

Under our excavation and hire focus, we had the opportunity to be trusted with some amazing projects across Melbourne and the eastern suburbs and it was more than we could have hoped for.

However, somewhere along the line, as we worked with the elements and features we loved, and enjoyed long days on the digger, we started to miss the next stage of the process. The exciting work that would happen next when we handed a project back after our excavation. We missed the artistry of softscaping. Frankly, we missed the green of it all.

We started feeling reinvigorated about landscaping as a whole and seeing a vision through from start to finish.

As Altar turned one, it felt like the right time to reflect on the first year of business and consider; where do we want to go from here?

Ultimately, while we love rocks, earth moving and all the fun that comes from excavation, we realised that our heart is ultimately for journeying with clients the whole way. Meeting them with a blank space of potential at the start of a project and handing over the outdoor space of their dreams at the end.

With that realisation, we thought it was time to reflect this in our name & we underwent our first re-brand. Sooner than expected? Absolutely. But this new vision for Altar needed to be acknowledged in our ethos, our model, all the way down to our branding.

Not only does this new look bring clarity to our clients, but it reinforces our vision and the direction we are heading.

For us, a year in business refined us and revealed the true heart of our company. A heart for our work that, in truth, was really there the whole time. The Heart of Altar has been and is a belief in dreaming big with others. But we learned that the best part of dreaming with others is doing the journey together, the whole way.

Above: Some of the excavation works we did in our first year. Awesome jobs, awesome clients.
